The
Earth Shook, the Sky Burned
by William Bronson
There are dozens of books about the great San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906. I have read most of them and this is by far my favorite. This stirring account of the tragedy is illustrated with most of the best photos available from the time. Many from the Arnold Genth collection, many taken in the places of most danger. Bill's book is a wonderful, must-have book for those who are interested in the history of the 1906 earthquake.

If
you lived at the time of The Great San Francisco Earthquake
by Ellen Levine, Pat Grant Porter, and Richard Williams
This book takes you to San Francisco, California, shortly before, during, and after April 18, 1906. Lighter and more entertaining for kids than Bill Bronson's book it is a wonderful introduction to life at the turn of the last century.
